The CPET (Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Test) is one of the highest standards for measuring cardiovascular fitness and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max). The VO2max value, expressed in milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute (ml/kg/min), indicates how much oxygen your body can utilize during intense aerobic exercise. A higher VO2max value reflects better endurance and cardiovascular fitness.

How the VO2max Test Works:

Wear comfortable sports clothing and shoes. You will connect to the VO2max device via a mouthpiece or mask that collects your exhaled air for analysis. The device is calibrated to ensure accurate measurements, and the mask is adjusted for a correct fit and secure seal.

The test begins with a brief warm-up phase involving low-intensity aerobic activities such as walking or cycling. You then perform a graded exercise test, where the intensity gradually increases in predefined stages, such as by adjusting the speed or incline on a treadmill or the resistance on a stationary bike.

Our exercise physiologist monitors your respiratory parameters and blood pressure throughout the test. You maintain the intensity until you reach voluntary exhaustion or specific physiological criteria are met. After reaching maximum effort, a cool-down phase follows to gradually lower your heart rate.
